Mission Statement
The mission of Rational Recovery Systems, Inc., is to disseminate information on self-recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs through planned, permanent abstinence, to make self-recovery a viable option throughout our social service system, and to make informed consent to addiction treatment and recovery group participation available to all addicted people.
“Informed consent,” consists of a body of information about the nature of addiction and recovery, about the risk/benefit ratios of addiction treatment and recovery group participation, and about the social and political dynamics behind mainstream thinking and social policies concerning substance abuse and addiction recovery. Click here for a pdf presenting the current body of information we present as “informed consent.”
Rational Recovery® is the exclusive, worldwide source of counseling, guidance, and direct instruction on self-recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs through planned, permanent abstinence, i.e., Addictive Voice Recognition Technique® (AVRT®)
As you navigate through the website, you
will notice that the “®“ symbol appears
regularly, signifying that some of the language of Rational
Recovery® is protected by federal laws. While some may
take a dim view of this, our primary purpose in registering our
service marks is to prevent AVRT® from being offered
or mandated by our social service system, including addiction
treatment agencies, counseling professionals, employers,
courts, jails, hospitals, prisons, and other organizations
involved in the rapacious addiction treatment industry.
Addictive Voice Recognition Technique®
(AVRT®) is the lore of self-recovery from substance
addiction in a brief, educational format. By its nature, AVRT® is not and cannot be a professional tool. AVRT®
is not a form of counseling, therapy, or addiction treatment. If AVRT® is offered as a professional service, diluted
as an adjunct to any other recovery methodology or treatment,
or included in the program of a recovery group, its fundamental
meaning is radically changed.
In 1994,
Rational Recovery® severed from the professional community
when it became apparent that AVRT® is irreconcilable with
the basic beliefs and guiding principles that prevail therein.
When the comprehensive nature of AVRT® was presented to the
board of the Rational Recovery Self-Help Network, the board of
that nonprofit, recovery group organization attempted to take
control of the protected name, Rational Recovery. A successful
lawsuit, Rational Recovery Systems, Inc., vs. Rational Recovery
Self-Help Network, ensued, forcing that entity to become
nameless. It re-organized and is now an addiction treatment guild fronting a tiny recovery group network with widespread operations
in the corrections and prison systems. The existing RR groups
were belatedly disbanded, and today Rational Recovery®
is solidly entrenched outside the social service system. AVRT®
is now an independent national asset wholly in the private sector,
completely free from the self-serving influences that have resulted
in the American addiction tragedy.
Rational
Recovery® is a registered service mark in the addictions field,
and is also the short name of a California corporation, Rational
Recovery Systems, Inc., of which I am the president. We have and
will continue to litigate against any person or agency that misuses
our corporate name or infringes upon our copyrights, trademarks,
and service marks. Because we are in the business of helping people,
we will seek the punishments of law against those who interfere
with our mission statement, above.
